A brief
history of Debmar Whippets |
|
The foundation of Debmar Whippets was a bitch named Fiona, given to us
as a gift from a Poodle breeder. Fiona produced our first litter of three.
Ch. Debmar's Lady in Lace, JC ("Victoria") and Ch. Ride the Lightning
("Orion") remained here at Debmar and started our journey into the world
of whippets.
Victoria has made us very proud by being a Top Ten Whippet for three consecutive
years, an AWC Select Award winner, winner of the AWC Top Twenty, and Best
of Opposite Sex at Westminster Kennel Club in 1996.
Victoria was bred to Ch. Chelsea Drakkar of Oxford, FCh, to start our
major breeding line. From this breeding we have kept one bitch, Ch.Debmar's
Victorian Lace, to continue to grow our real foundation
A solid red bitch called "Lucy" was leased from a Whippet breeder to
produce our second litter. From this litter, Ch. Debmar's Touched By Angels,
JC ("Diva") made us very proud when she earned her championship with a
five-point major win, our first AWC Award of Merit and Best of Winners
at an AWC Specialty. Diva produced two champions when bred to Ch. Chelsea
Champagne, FCh, JC
Diva's daughter, Ch. Debmar's Angel Among Us, FCh, JC won her AWC Breeder's
Futurity class, and her son Ch. Debmar's Give 'Em Hell Harry is now serving
as a certified therapy dog.
Ch. Debmar's Angel Among Us, FCh, JC was bred to DC. Chelsea Gold Rush
of Keynote, JC, and has produced our most exciting litter to date. The
resulting puppies from this cross are dynamic and should set Debmar firmly
toward our future.
As breeders, I feel that we have a huge responsibility on so many levels.
We owe so much to the breeders who worked so hard before us, and we owe
to the future of the breed itself. I feel we also owe to all of the puppies
we bring into the world the best chance we can give them for successful
life. As breeders we are responsible for creating healthy, happy, and
multi-purpose Whippets that are surrounded by beauty and grace. When breeding,
I feel that we shouldn't be looking for immediate results, but for the
long-term results of the future litters we wish to produce.
